Jakarta and Surrounding Areas Affected by Widespread Flooding After Heavy Rain

Heavy rainfall on Monday afternoon, July 7, 2025, led to widespread flooding across Jakarta and its neighbouring regions. The inundation intensified by Tuesday morning, 8 July, particularly in the capital.

According to the latest update from the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD DKI Jakarta), the number of affected neighbourhood units (RT) increased from 35 at 05.00 WIB to 46 by 06.00 WIB. Water levels in residential areas ranged from 30 cm to 130 cm, primarily due to intense rain and the overflow of several rivers.

In West Jakarta, 10 RTs were flooded. Notably, Duri Kosambi recorded water levels of 40 cm caused by the Angke River overflow.

Kedaung Kali Angke and Rawa Buaya faced similar flooding of up to 50 cm and 40 cm respectively, while the Semanan and Gebyuran rivers overflowed into Joglo, Semanan, and South Kembangan areas. In Kembangan Utara, water reached 60 cm due to heavy rainfall combined with river overflow.

South Jakarta reported the highest impact with 25 RTs inundated. The Krukut and Mampang rivers overflowed into areas such as Bangka (100 cm), West Kuningan (95 cm), Pela Mampang (60 cm), Duren Tiga (130 cm), and Jati Padang (85 cm). The local PHB canal in Gang Saiman also contributed to the flooding.

In East Jakarta, nine RTs experienced flooding. Kampung Melayu and Cililitan were significantly affected by the Ciliwung River, reaching 60 cm and 120 cm respectively. Balekambang reported 40 cm of flooding following heavy rainfall.

In North Jakarta, two RTs in Kapuk Muara were affected by a combination of heavy rainfall and tidal flooding (rob), with water levels reaching 65 cm. Several roads across the city were submerged, and hundreds of residents were evacuated to designated government shelters.

Residents Urged to Use Real-Time Flood Monitoring Platforms

As rainfall continued across Jabodetabek, the risk of further flooding remains high. To help residents monitor the situation and plan safe routes, the Jakarta government recommends several official platforms that provide real-time flood information:

  2. Google Maps now displays flood warning icons in red at affected locations. Users may also type keywords such as “flood location” in the search bar to access live updates.
  3. Jakarta Public CCTV

  10. The JAKI app includes crowd-sourced flood reports, water level data, and a function for users to submit reports on local flooding. It is available for download on the App Store and Google Play.

15 Housing Estates Flooded in Bogor, Thousands Displaced

Flooding also severely impacted Bogor Regency, particularly in the eastern region, where flash floods submerged 15 housing estates. The embankment of the Cibarengkok River failed following prolonged heavy rainfall, resulting in the inundation of approximately 4,000 homes.

Four sub-districts were affected, with tens of thousands of residents displaced. The main road connecting Cibubur and Jonggol was rendered impassable. In one case, a local hospital was forced to evacuate its patients to the upper floors as a precaution.

By midnight on Tuesday, 8 July, flooding in Cibubur, Jonggol, and surrounding areas remained severe. Several rivers including the Cibeber, Cibarengkok, Cikeas, and Cipeucang were reported to have overflowed, pushing water into densely populated communities.

Local officials continue to coordinate emergency response efforts, while residents are encouraged to monitor updates via the official platforms listed above.
