Foreigner Secures Ojek Jacket Directly from Driver, Why Is It So Popular?

Share:

Bali’s streets are filled with bright green jackets, but they’re not just worn by local motorcycle taxi (ojek) drivers anymore. More and more foreign tourists are now sporting these iconic Gojek and Grab jackets, turning them into an unexpected fashion trend.

A viral TikTok video posted by @luisa__maria shows a foreign tourist buying a Gojek jacket directly from a driver. In the video, the tourist hands money to the driver, who then passes over a brand-new jacket still wrapped in plastic. The tourist, clearly excited, immediately puts it on and proudly shows it off.

The video quickly gained attention, with comments like, Gojek go international!” and “I’ve been trying to find a rain jacket like that!”

Some asked how much the foreigner gave to get a motorcycle taxi jacket.

“How much did it cost?” to which the account owner replied with, ”He gave him 200 000 IDR/$20 AUD.”

Why Are Ojek Jackets So Popular Among Tourists?

So, what’s behind this growing trend? Here are a few reasons why foreign tourists in Bali love wearing online motorcycle jackets:

  • Practical & Affordable – The jackets are easy to find, cheap, and lightweight, making them comfortable to wear even in Bali’s hot weather.
  • Unique Souvenirs—Many tourists see them as fun and quirky keepsakes, something they can’t buy back home.
  • Cultural Connection – Gojek and Grab are a huge part of everyday life in Indonesia, and wearing the jacket makes foreigners feel more connected to the local culture.
  • Street Style Appeal—With their bold green colour and simple design, these jackets stand out and make cool Instagram-worthy outfits.

One content creator, Hamish, who has captured many foreigners wearing these jackets, explained that tourists in Bali are very familiar with Gojek and Grab services. Some even admire the design of the jackets.

“If I go to Bali later, I will definitely do it again (wear the ojek jacket again),” said one tourist.

From cafes to clubs, these jackets are becoming an unintentional fashion statement among tourists, especially in hotspots like Canggu. Whether it’s for practicality or just for fun, the ojek jacket trend in Bali doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
