A car plunged into the pool at the Bundaran HI in Central Jakarta early on Wednesday, 25 March 2026. The incident occurred shortly before 4.00 am Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
Video circulating on social media showed only the roof of the vehicle visible above the water. The rest of the car appeared to be submerged.
The driver sustained injuries following the incident. Authorities later confirmed that the injuries were minor.
Driver Reports Loss of Control
Head of the Jakarta Provincial Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, provided details of the incident.
“The incident occurred at 3:55 am Western Indonesian Time, involving a four-wheeled vehicle that plunged into the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia pool,” he told Liputan6 on Wednesday.
The vehicle was driven by Khafi Jakfar Shodiq. According to officials, the driver remained conscious after the incident.
Syafrin said the driver reported a malfunction in the vehicle. “He said the car experienced a computer error, causing it to lose control and plunge into the pool,” he explained.
The vehicle crossed the surrounding area before entering the pool. Authorities did not provide further technical details regarding the reported malfunction.
Vehicle Removed and Investigation Underway
Officers from the Jakarta Transportation Agency removed the vehicle from the pool at 8:48 am WIB. It was then taken to the Traffic Directorate office on MT Haryono Street for further examination.
“The traffic accident investigation is being handled by the Sub-Directorate of Law Enforcement at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Traffic Directorate,” Syafrin said.
Police are continuing their investigation into the incident. No additional information has been released regarding possible causes beyond the driver’s statement.
