Bali Will Soon Have a World-Class Marina, Targeted for Completion in 2025

Bali will soon have Indonesia’s first international marina. PT Marina Development Indonesia (MDI) and Pelindo have just announced this ambitious project, which will change the face of Indonesian marine tourism.

The new marina will accommodate 180 wet docks, including over 50 luxury yachts up to 90 meters long. The modern facility features a boat servicing area, a 200-ton travel lift, and a high-quality fueling station.

“Indonesia deserves a first-class marina that reflects its status as the world’s new yachting paradise,” said Ulf Backlund, President Director of Marina Development Indonesia, as reported by Antara.

The new marina in Bali, strategically located in Benoa just 15 minutes from the airport, is planned to be the region’s premier yacht center, serving international and domestic yacht owners. It is called the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub (BMTH).

“Indonesia’s unique location, safely out of the path of hurricanes and typhoons, combined with 17,000 islands, spectacular dive sites, diverse languages, cultures and favourable weather all year round, make Indonesia an ideal location for such a development. The marina will attract global yachting enthusiasts who are open to exploring Indonesia’s natural beauty in the world’s largest archipelago.”

The marina, which is targeted to operate in the second semester of 2025, is expected to become an anchor of Indonesia’s maritime tourism, providing a multiplier effect on the development of butterfly route cruise routes. It will cover important ports such as Tanjung Emas, Tanjung Perak, Gilimas, Labuan Bajo, and Raja Ampat.

The marina’s design and facilities will adhere to the highest international standards, focusing on sustainability and environmental preservation. Yacht owners and visitors can look forward to an array of premium facilities, including a prestigious yacht club, modern yacht services and high-quality refuelling stations, luxury hospitality options, and entertainment and commercial areas with extensive retail, office and dining outlets.

The Bali Maritime Tourism Hub project will accommodate up to 5 cruise ships. Previously, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir predicted that the overall operation of the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub (BMTH) project in Bali would take until 2027.

However, Erick Thohir said that currently, it must focus on increasing tourism in Bali, which has been struggling with flights.

The Bali Maritime Tourism Hub project can accommodate up to 400 tourist ships or yachts and four to five cruise ships.

“We have to increase tourism in Bali, which has been more focused on aviation,” aids Erick Thohir when reviewing the BMTH project in Denpasar, Bali, Sunday (12/5/2024), as quoted from Antara.
