Two United States citizens were involved in Bali road incident that led to a car being vandalised by a crowd in Ketewel, Gianyar, Bali, on Friday, 4 July 2025. The situation escalated after an alleged hit-and-run on Jalan Antasura, Denpasar, triggered a long chase that ended in Sukawati District.
The incident began in Denpasar when the Toyota Raize driven by the tourists allegedly braked suddenly, resulting in a minor collision with a local motorcyclist, identified as Rio Aditya (21) from Lumajang, East Java. The motorcyclist attempted to approach the vehicle to seek accountability, but the car did not stop.
According to reports, the car sped away, leading to a pursuit from Jalan Antasura, through Mambal Market, Kengetan Ubud, Silakarang Village, and ending on Jalan Ida Bagus Mantra, Ketewel.
Video footage circulating on social media shows the black Toyota Raize stopped at a red light, surrounded by residents. The crowd began hitting the vehicle’s glass and kicking its roof as tensions escalated.
“Earlier, around 11 am, I was returning from the villa via Bypass Ida Bagus Mantra. Suddenly, there was a chase with the black car in the video speeding away. It stopped at the red light and couldn’t pass through. Finally, the crowd reacted. It is suspected that the perpetrator of a hit-and-run, look, the car was damaged while being chased,” read a caption from one of the viral videos.
The video further shows a woman wearing a blue-and-white dress exiting the driver’s seat, while a shirtless man remains inside the car. The vehicle had sustained considerable damage, including broken glass and mirrors.
Police Confirm Case Was Road-Related, No Report Filed by Tourists
Ipda I Gusti Ngurah Suardita, Head of the Public Relations Section of Gianyar Police, confirmed the incident.
“The incident is true. An attempt to vandalise a black Toyota Raize car occurred on Jalan Bypass, Ketewel. It has now been handled by Gianyar Police. However, the traffic accident took place outside our jurisdiction, possibly in Denpasar,” he stated when contacted by DetikBali.
Suardita added that the two American citizens, identified as Kalhil Faryt and Rodriguez Chavez Suendys, were believed to have fled the accident scene out of panic after grazing a resident.
“To avoid further vigilantism by the masses, the two American tourists and their car have been secured at Gianyar Police Station,” Suardita explained.
The tourists have not filed a police report regarding the vandalism. According to Suardita, the individuals expressed remorse and acknowledged their fault in the initial traffic incident.
“Regarding the vandalism, the foreigner did not report it because he felt guilty of committing a traffic accident and stated he would be responsible for the incident,” he added.
Police have since confirmed that the car is being held as evidence. The Americans are currently awaiting potential reports from other road users who may have been affected during the pursuit.
Ipda Gusti Ngurah Sudiarta, Public Relations Officer of Gianyar Police, reiterated that the Gianyar jurisdiction only covered the scene where the vandalism took place.
“After questioning the two US citizens and a number of witnesses, we confirmed that the area of the accident itself lies in Denpasar and Badung. So far, the Americans have not reported the vandalism of the car. They chose to reconcile and make this incident a lesson,” he said.
The Gianyar Police are now coordinating with the relevant authorities in Denpasar and Badung for any further legal follow-up concerning the alleged traffic offence.
