19th September 2022 – A new update regarding the petition on the noise in Canggu area was announced. Canggu’s beach clubs and nightclubs were reported to cause noise pollution which was not quite regulated. This new regulation announced by the minister of tourism and creative economy, Sandiaga Uno, is set to limit the noise to 70 dB. The implementation and details will soon be implemented.

Furthermore, all stakeholders in Canggu have agreed to minimise noise pollution by limiting it to 70dB for outdoor activities. Regarding the maximum operation time of the clubs, they have agreed to set it to 1 AM. The monitoring among the business owners, locals and local apparatus is soon to be implemented to create sustainable harmony between locals and the business owners.

According to Uno, the agreement is supposed to be continuously monitored and improved later in the form of regulations that have taken into account the calculations of the times. He hopes that the agreement that was entered into two days ago can be improved in a legal framework that can be the basis for its implementation and supervision. Uno also states that the central government have a deep respect the local culture and is willing to support the business owners.

The Vice Governor of Bali, Tjokorda Artha Ardana Sukawati shows appreciation for the fast response of the central government towards the petition. He hopes this issue can be momentum for every stakeholder to run some evaluation. Thus, further action toward the agreement has to be detailing the technicality in order to avoid ambiguity or loopholes that might disadvantage some parties.

President Joko Widodo is also paying attention to this matter, especially since Bali in the near future will host the G20 Presidency, which previously also hosted a series of international activities such as World Tourism Day, World Conference on Creative Economy, and others.
