Bali Streets surfing

Video Shows Foreigner Gliding Through Bali Streets with Surfboard. Is It Safe?

Share:

A Russian foreign national has drawn attention online after uploading a video of himself rollerblading through Bali streets while using a surfboard, a stunt he calls “Bali Street Surfing.”

The video, which was shared on Instagram via @savosin.ilia, shows the man mimicking the motions of surfing. Only this time, it’s not waves he’s riding, but asphalt pavement.

In the footage, the man is seen rolling along the asphalt in what appears to be a mix of playfulness and street performance.

Clad in casual attire, not wearing a shirt, he zigzags through traffic, appearing completely at ease despite the busy road conditions.

The performance, while amusing to some, has ignited mixed reactions on social media, with users divided between admiration and concern.

The Instagram account @kulturdomestik identified the man as a tourist from Russia, further fuelling the conversation.

As the clip gained traction, viewers weighed in with varied opinions. “Do you know that it’s not safe for you or others on the road? Think about others, not just your content!” one user commented. Another was more direct, writing: “Catch him. He’s endangering others and himself.”

Others responded with sarcasm or humour, with one user remarking, “First of all, is that even allowed? I don’t think so, but in Bali, the law is supposed to be broken according to some tourists, what a naughty kid.”

Public Reaction Mixed as Safety Concerns Rise

While the stunt was clearly meant to entertain and perhaps show off a bit of flair, concerns have been raised over its safety and legality. Several users questioned the wisdom of rollerblading in open traffic without any visible protective gear.

“Cool, but be careful, don’t cause an accident,” one user warned. Another added, “Rollerblading on a highway is high-risk, especially without safety gear.”

There has been no official response from local authorities or the Bali Police regarding the incident. However, under Indonesian traffic law, any activity that disrupts traffic flow or poses a potential hazard to road users can be subject to penalties.

Whether “Bali Street Surfing” falls into that category remains to be clarified, but the video has certainly reignited conversations about public safety and responsible tourism.

Beyond legal implications, the clip has sparked wider reflection on what constitutes appropriate behaviour in public spaces. Is it simply a harmless display of creativity or a reckless disregard for safety? For some, it’s both.

“This is Bali, not a skate park,” another comment read, pointing to the need for boundaries even in a holiday setting. On the flip side, a few users admired the individual’s confidence and balance, but still encouraged safer environments for such activities.

Until there is clarification from local authorities, the debate continues. For now, the message from many in the online community is clear: have fun, but stay safe and respect local norms, especially when sharing the road with others.
