The Head of Public Relations for the Bali Police, Jansen Avitus, revealed how the online motorcycle taxi driver, WD, allegedly raped a Brazilian tourist, GWL. The rape occurred on an empty lot at Jalan Nyang-Nyang, Jimbaran Village, South Kuta District, Badung Regency. This incident occurred from 04.00 to 05.00 a.m WITA on Monday, 7th of August 2023.
Jansen explained that GWL ordered an online motorcycle taxi to visit a friend.
“During the trip the victim (GWL) was continuously chatted by the perpetrator, to a point where the victim did not pay attention to Google maps during the trip,” said Jansen in a press release Monday evening, 7th of August 2023.
The two arrived at an empty lot; the online motorcycle taxi driver turned off his motorbike and ordered the Brazilian tourist to get off. WD attempted to rape GWL and threw the Brazilian tourist to the ground.
The perpetrator immediately strangled the victim’s neck and covered her mouth as well. The 26-year-old woman tried to fight back by hitting the perpetrator with a water bottle.
GWL managed to escape, but the online motorcycle taxi driver caught the Brazilian woman and threw the Brazilian tourist’s body back down. After being raped, WD took GWL back to her villa.
The police visited the victim to ask for additional information to complete the post-mortem examination and collect evidence. The Bali police are also trying to provide a sense of security and special assistance to the Brazilian tourist.
Jansen and the entire Bali police promised that the perpetrator would receive appropriate punishment for his action. The police also vowed to protect the victims’ well-being during the whole legal process.
