Jokowi to Meet Apple CEO Tim Cook for Investment Discussion

Apple CEO Tim Cook is visiting Indonesia after visiting Vietnam. President Jokowi is scheduled to meet with Tim Cook today (17/04/2024) at the Merdeka Palace. Their meeting sparked interest in Apple’s investment in Indonesia.

Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita conveyed the news of Jokowi’s official meeting with Tim Cook.

According to him, Indonesia hopes there will be investment potential during the visit of the boss of the giant technology company from the United States.

Apple is also committed to improving the quality of education in Indonesia in terms of human resources (HR) and infrastructure. Apple’s official website shows that the company has just opened the latest Apple Developer Academy in Bali.

Since 2018, the Apple Developer Academy has actively collaborated with Binus in BSD Tangerang, Ciputra University in Surabaya, and Infinite Learning in Batam to establish its presence.

Over 2,000 aspiring developers have actively participated in the Academy, aiming to kickstart their careers in the iOS app industry. The program encompasses fundamental programming concepts, app design, marketing strategies, project management, and other skills for thriving in the industry.

As a testament to the Academy’s impact, Apple claims that 90 percent of its graduates have gone on to find meaningful employment in various sectors, spanning education, e-commerce, transportation, sustainability, and more.

Apple’s collaboration with Asian content creators

Before meeting Jokowi, Tim Cook made a pit stop to hang with the creative crew in Indonesia. He even shared the moment on his X account, @tim_cook, chilling in a restaurant with some chicken satay on his plate.

Using the Indonesian language, he greeted his followers on X and uploaded a photo with iPhone photographer Sofyan Pratama.

While in Hanoi, Tim Cook met with students, content creators, and users of Apple products to learn about their experiences using the company’s technology. The visit caught the attention of the tech and business community, showing how important Vietnam and Indonesia are in Apple’s global strategy.

Cook’s meeting in Vietnam and subsequent visit to Indonesia show Apple’s increased focus on the Southeast Asian market. While details of Cook’s meeting agenda in Indonesia are yet to be announced, the visit is expected to bring new collaborations and initiatives between Apple and stakeholders in the region.
