Jabodebek LRT Introduces Women’s-Only Carriages Available on Weekdays

Share:

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI officially operates women-only cars on the Jabodebek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Bekasi) LRT series starting today, Monday 23 December 2024. KAI took this step to further improve the comfort and safety of female public transportation users.

Executive Vice President of LRT Jabodebek, Mochamad Purnomosidi, said the decision to implement women-only trains on weekdays was the result of an evaluation of the trial that had been carried out since December 16, 2024.

The carriages will only be available during Jabodebek LRT operations on weekdays, aka Monday-Friday. Saturday, Sunday, and national holidays, the train series will operate normally without special division.

“We understand that the need for comfort and safety for female users is not limited to certain hours,” said Executive Vice President of LRT Jabodebek, Mochamad Purnomosidi, through an official statement to the media.

Each train set has this special women’s carriage at the back. Because this is a new policy, each station will be equipped with visual signs and periodic announcements to ensure users know the location of this special carriage.

“Station officers will also be ready to provide information and assistance to passengers as needed,” Purnomo said.

Purnomosidi said that the women-only train will remain in the rearmost (last) position of each train set operating in all Jabodebek LRT travel relations.

Each station will continue to be equipped with visual signs and periodic announcements to ensure users are aware of the location of this special train. Station staff will also be on hand to provide information and assistance to passengers as needed.

KAI made these changes relatively quickly after implementing the initial policy, demonstrating their commitment to safe, comfortable, and inclusive public transportation.
