How to Register a Newborn Baby in Indonesia – If you go to Indonesia with a partner who is pregnant, it is important for you to learn how to register a newborn baby in Indonesia.

Usually, the hospital issues an official birth certificate called an “Akte Kelahiran.” The hospital will also issue a Surat Keterangan Lahir or Surat Tanda Kelahiran, which is a Recognition of Birth certificate. Your home country’s consulates will ask for an official translation of these documents for registering the birth purpose at the consulate.

Within 14 days following the birth, one of the parents must register the birth of their child with Indonesian immigration. Some hospitals’ records departments assist patients with immigration processing for a fee. Once they acquire a passport for the infant, foreign residents with KITAS Visas must apply for the baby’s KITAS Visa.

Report the birth to the immigration office (Kantor Imigrasi) within 14 days of the baby’s birth and request a Birth of Foreigner paperwork (Kelahiran Orang Asing). Birth might be registered by both parents, one parent, or a paid representative. Employers occasionally handle their employees’ immigration processing as well.

Each of the following documents must be provided in original form and at least two copies:

  • Parents’ passports
  • Valid residency visas – usually KITAS or KITAP Visas
  • Sponsor’s letter (confirms relationship with foreign residents)
  • Marriage certificate (official translated copy)
  • Birth certificate issued by the hospital (Akte Lahir or Akte Kelahiran)
  • Surat Keterangan Lahir or surat tanda kelahiran (similar to a birth certificate and also issued by the hospital)
  • Buku matasi (blue foreigner’s book)
  • Six photographs of the newborn: 2×3 cm, all on a red background
  • Six photographs of the newborn: 3×4 cm, all on a red background

Within 60 days of the baby’s birth, you need to apply for the child’s passport at the consulate of your origin country. Once the child’s passport has been issued you can back to the Immigration Office and submit an application for the baby’s KITAS Visa. The application procedure typically takes three days, then the KITAS visa is stamped in the infant’s passport.

Those are the steps on how to register a newborn baby in Indonesia. Hope this article helps you!
