A foreigner from Italy, Zicari Giancarlo, died after falling at the Gajah Mas waterfall, Banjar Baturiti Kelod, Baturiti District, Tabanan, Bali. Giancarlo fell from a height of 25 meters.
The unfortunate Bali waterfall accident occurred on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 11:20 am. Giancarlo and his Italian girlfriend Biagi Ilaria were walking at the waterfall.
Zicari allegedly fell while taking a selfie. At that time, he invited his girlfriend to take a selfie with a background view of the cliff and waterfall with his back to the fence and made the fence support.
Tabanan Police Public Relations Section Head, Iptu I Gusti Made Berata, confirmed the accident.
“It is suspected that the victim died due to falling from the top of the Gajah Mas villa waterfall area down 25 meters,” he said, as reported by Detik.
Without warning, the fence that was being used as a support gave way, causing the victim and his girlfriend to plummet from the terrace, approximately 25 meters high.
Ilaria only suffered abrasions and did not fall. She eventually regained consciousness, experiencing dizziness and abrasions, and slowly climbed up to ask for help.
When she arrived at the top, she was helped by a Ukrainian tourist, Sokoliuk Viktoria, who was staying at the Gajah Mas villa.
“Seeing the incident experienced by the victim’s girlfriend, the witness tried to help the victim’s girlfriend to be taken up to the villa lobby to get medical assistance and immediately reported to the villa guard and Baturiti Police to get further treatment,” said Made Berata.
Made Berata also said that the body of the Italian tourist had been taken to Sanglah General Hospital (Prof. Ngoerah).
“The victim refused an autopsy and accepted the incident as a disaster,” he said.
Responding to Bali waterfall accident, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno expressed his condolences and proposed tightening security and assistance.
“I encourage stricter implementation of CHSE (Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environmental Sustainability). For managers or tourism awareness groups, if I suggest, especially in places that may be vulnerable, security and assistance will be added,” Sandiaga said at the Sapta Pesona building, Jakarta, on Monday, August 5, 2024.
The reason is that, continued Menparekraf, the two tourists were not accompanied by a tour guide while travelling on the Island of the Gods or Bali.
