As 88rising’s first-ever Indonesian girl group project, No Na represents a strategic expansion into the Southeast Asian music market. Backed by the full support of an internationally respected label, the group is viewed as a fresh symbol of emerging Indonesian talent ready to take the global stage.

The presence of No Na not only enriches the Asian music landscape, but also serves as a source of national pride. Their performances are expected to feature strong cultural elements, celebrating a distinctly Indonesian identity.

The Concept Behind No Na: Local Identity and Global Appeal

One notable aspect of the group is the distinctive naming convention: each member’s stage name begins with ‘Nona’, a word that evokes femininity and carries cultural resonance in Indonesia. This choice reinforces their national branding while appealing to wider Asian audiences.

The name No Na itself is soft, easy to remember, and fitting for today’s music market, particularly among younger demographics in Asia.

The group consists of four talented members, each with a strong background in entertainment, whether in music, dance, or academics:

Nona Baila (Baila Fauri)

Hailing from Jakarta, Baila rose to prominence through Indonesian Idol Junior 2014, where she reached the top six. She later competed in the regular Indonesian Idol and is known to be close to fellow young Indonesian celebrities such as Jennifer Coppen and Devano Danendra.

Nona Christy (Christy Gardena)

Christy is from Lombok and is a professional ballet dancer. She secured third place in the 2019 International Dance Asia Competition (duo category). She also gained popularity on TikTok before her account was deactivated.

Nona Esther (Esther Geraldine)

Esther became widely known after appearing on the 10th season of Indonesian Idol. Supported by her family, she pursued a music career and has since released the song ‘Rarity’ and collaborated with major artists like Dipha Barus and Afgan on ‘Keep It Hush’.

Nona Shazfa (Shazfa Adesya)

Shazfa studied Public Relations and Advertising at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia, and was listed on the Dean’s List in 2022. In addition to academic excellence, she is active in dance and shares her work through TikTok on @shazfa.adesya.

“Shoot” Music Video Highlights Indonesia’s Natural Beauty

In the introductory video uploaded by 88rising, No Na is presented with a fairy-tale-like visual concept, showcasing the natural beauty of Indonesian women. The video opens with the sound of Balinese gamelan instruments and features stunning coastal landscapes, enhancing the group’s cultural presentation.

Wajib masukin ke Itin kalian kalau lagi di Bali 🌊🏝️ So incredibly proud that Indonesia finally has a girl group with their own unique style, a true local pride with international quality! 🇮🇩👏🏼 Let’s support these Indonesian girlies!🥥🌴🐚🌸 📸: @Bagaska.putra #travelbali #bali #nona ♬ shoot – NO NA

Their debut track, titled “Shoot”, is an upbeat pop-dance number with a relaxed musical tone. It is now available on all digital streaming platforms.

The music video portrays the members singing, dancing, and enjoying the serene settings of rice fields, beaches, and a waterfall — the latter being the Banyumala Twin Waterfall in Buleleng, Bali.

Located in Banjar Asah Panji, Wanagiri Village, the waterfall offers cool mountain air and is surrounded by lush gardens and greenery. To reach the site, visitors must first take a short trek. However, the effort is well worth it — the twin waterfalls stand around 37 metres high and cascade into a natural pool, ideal for swimming and soaking in the scenery.

Most Popular and Successful Artists from the 88rising Record Label

88rising is renowned for being home to some of the most influential and successful Asian musicians in the global music scene. If you are familiar with Indonesian artists such as NIKI and Rich Brian, you may already know that they are part of the 88rising label.

Behind the label’s success is the visionary management of Sean Miyashiro, who has played a key role in introducing talented Asian artists to the international stage.

In addition to NIKI and Rich Brian, many other notable musicians are part of the 88rising family. Curious to know who they are?

Some of the label’s most recognised names include Joji, Rich Brian, NIKI, Warren Hue, and Stephanie Poetri. These artists are regular performers at Head in the Clouds (HITC), a major music festival curated by 88 rising.

The festival lineup often features a mix of 88rising label artists and other prominent Asian and K-Pop performers such as Chung Ha, Day6, Zhu (DJ set), Phum Viphurit, Yerin Baek, August 08, and Dumbfoundead.

Head in the Clouds Festival is not only the name of the festival but also the title of a collaborative album released by 88rising, showcasing the diverse musical talents on the label. The album has been released in two volumes:

  • The first edition, released in July 2018, featured collaborations with artists such as 03 Greedo, BlocBoy JB, Famous Dex, GoldLink, HARIKIRI, Phum Viphurit, Playboi Carti, Vory, Yung Bans, and Yung Pinch.
  • The second volume, released in October 2019, included contributions from Stephanie Poetri once again, as well as Barney Bones, Chungha, GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE, GoldLink, Jackson Wang, Major Lazer, Phum Viphurit, Rhyme So, and Swae Lee.

88rising continues to play a crucial role in elevating Asian and Asian Americans representation in the international music industry, with its artists regularly topping charts and performing at major global music festivals, such as Coachella.
