3 Immigrants Alleged to Espionage Arrested in Kaltara

July 26, 2022 – Marine Military officer arrested six people in North Kalimantan (Kaltara). Three of them are foreigners while the other three are Indonesian. Currently, they are detained in TPI Nunukan Immigration Class II.

The six of them are arrested after entering and taking pictures in a vital object area.

They are interrogated and claimed to have not known that the location is a vital object. They are now detained by Immigration in the detention room for 30 days.

Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, General Andika Perkasa spoke out about the allegation of espionage by three foreigners in Indonesia and Malaysia borders, Pulai Sebatik, Nunukan, Klatara on Wednesday (20/7).

“I haven’t received an official report. However, I’ll be cautious, because I have to know exactly who are spies too,” said Andika on Sunday (24/7).

Despite that, his team will investigate the alleged espionage by foreigners.

“I never said they are spies. Up to this point, I haven’t received any official report but I promise that I will investigate so that the handling is proportional,” he continued.

The Identity of Three Immigrants

The three foreigners have been identified as Bai Jidong (45), Ho Jin Kiat (40), and Leo Bin Simon (39). While the three Indonesians are Yosafat Yusuf and two drivers with the initial EW and TR.

XXVIII Marines Ambalat, Captain Mar Andreas Manalu detained three immigrants and three Indonesian prior to arrest, they show strange behaviour when a black minibus passed by the Sei Pancang Marine Guard Post. When passing by, the car that was carrying the foreigners did not fully lower the car window.

After that, the three Indonesian and one of the foreigners get off the car at the security post to present a detailed project about the construction of a bridge that will connect Tawau to Sebatik. It was then considered a diversion attempt.

Wadansatgas Marine Ambalat XXVIII First Lieutenant Mar Victor saw one of the foreigners secretly aims their phone camera at TNI AL Radar.

“Two pictures of cement barbell were taken and another one is at the TNI AL Radar that came a little bit blurry since I scolded [them],” he said.
