22nd August 2022 – Minister of National Development Planning (PPN)/Head of Bappenas Suharso Monoarfa stated that 22 countries are to join G20 Development Working Group (DWG) meeting, which, will take place in Belitung, Bangka Belitung (Babel) Islands Province, on 7 to 9 September 2022.
He said that there are also several countries that will attend it by considering flights, security, and accommodation. Some countries want direct flights from Singapore, thus, following consultation with the minister of transportation, Singapore to Belitung flights can reopen.
According to Acting Governor of Bangka Belitung Islands Ridwan Djamaluddin, the G20 DWG meeting in Belitung was supported by different preparations undertaken by the provincial, district and other relevant entities.
He said that they’re ready for G20 DWG in general despite not being complete in preparation yet. Additionally, there aren’t any major hurdles like airport access, planes, roads, hospitals, or hotels. He also added that clean water from PDAM, PLN, Pertamina, and the internet has also been prepared.
Djamaluddin also made sure that the police, army, ministry of transportation, and Basarnas consistently upgraded their preparations for this G20 DWG meeting.
Airport revitalization work before G20 DWG
Head of Belitung District Sahani Saleh said to welcome 22 countries to join G20 DWG meeting in Belitung this year, all access points, including the roads leading to the event’s main site and tourist attractions, are still being built, with a goal of having them finished by the end of this month (August 2022).
As the number of flights from the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang City, Banten Province, will be increased to eight per day, Khaerul Asidiqi, Executive General Manager of the state-run airport operator Angkasa Pura (AP) II, said that his side will maximize improvements of the airport facilities.
He stated, “Considering that thus far, just 50% of the slot time at the Tanjung Pandan Airport was used, we are ready to accept the additional aircraft.”
