Soekarno-Hatta International Airport’s Immigration Office in Jakarta detained seventeen African foreign nationals whose presence did not correspond with their immigration stay permit. The 17 foreigners were found in two residences in Cengkareng, West Jakarta.
The chief of the Soekarno Hatta Special Class I Immigration Office, Muhammad Tito Andrianto, said that they were detained due to a report about the disruptive behaviour of foreigners. The African nationals were consist of 16 Nigerians and 1 Ghanaian.
On Wednesday, 24th of May 2023, Andrianto stated, “After obtaining the information, we immediately dispatched our team members to undertake surveillance activities in the two residences in the Cengkareng region.”
Five Nigerian citizens reportedly violated Article 116 of Law Number 6 of 2011 Concerning Immigration during the examination because they could not present passports and residency cards.
Additionally, he said that two Nigerian citizens were in breach of Article 78, paragraph 3, since their residence permits had expired (they had overstayed).
“One Nigerian and one Ghanaian citizen possessed passports and residence permits as investors, but their companies are suspected to be fictitious, which allegedly violates Article 123, letter a,” said Andrianto.
Furthermore, it was believed that three other Nigerian nationals with Visit Stay permits were breaking Article 122 letter a by participating in activities not authorised by their visa permits.
Twelve passports and five Limited Stay Permit Cards (KITAS for Investors) were among the evidence recovered, and the police suggested of a possible letter or statement fabrication that these African nationals did to satisfy administrative criteria for Limited Stay Permits (ITAS) applications at the Immigration Office.
Investigators also found thirty-one mobile phones and 15 computers. Andrianto stated that foreign KITAS holders, particularly Investors, had been detained for attempting to defraud authorities by falsifying firm ownership records to bolster their Stay Permit applications.
“We are currently coordinating and collaborating with relevant agencies to monitor companies or sponsors of foreigners suspected to be fictitious. The 17 African nationals will face immigration administrative action, including deportation,” Adrianto stated.
