Despite his name still evoking horror, Sumanto’s social media content is not at all frightening. In fact, the content he uploads is deliberately made to share his daily life while entertaining his followers.

He does not hesitate to pose or sing, although sometimes he looks a little shyly smiling when directed by the admin from behind the camera.

Some netizens also left motivational comments that were proud of Sumanto’s changes.

Sumanto’s history

Sumanto is a man from Pelumutan, Kemangkon, Purbalingga, Central Java who migrated to Lampung to work as a sugarcane plantation labourer.

His life changed drastically when he tried to steal corpses to gain magical powers. He also allegedly ate the corpses. He stole 3 corpses from various regions, one of which was the corpse of the late Mbok Rinah, which led him to be secured by the police.

Sumanto was eventually sentenced to 5 years in prison. During his imprisonment, he discovered a spiritual journey and repented.

Sumanto’s fate has now changed completely since the cannibalism case. Sumanto often appears on an Instagram account titled ‘Sumanto Gereng Reborn’ which has attracted 10 thousand followers.
