Heru Budi Hartono has been officially promoted to the position of Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta. Heru will be replacing Anies Baswedan, who has completed his term on Sunday, October 16, 2022.

Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian inaugurated Heru through Presidential Decree Number 100/P of 2022. The inauguration was held at the Sasana Bhakti Praja building, Ministry of Home Affairs, Monday (17/10/2022). He will be serving the position at least until the definitive governor election in 2024.

On that occasion, the government also dismissed Anies Baswedan from his previous position as Governor of DKI Jakarta. The government also appointed the Acting Regent of Yapen and Acting Regent of Tolikara. The two officials were inaugurated at the same time as Heru.

Heru’s name made it to the stage after being mentioned by Vice President Ma’ruf Amin and members of the TPA and related ministers. Meanwhile the other two candidates were Jakarta Regional Secretary Marullah and Director General of Politics and Public Administration of the Ministry of Home Affairs Bachtiar.

“He (Heru) is a technocrat who has quite extensive experience in dealing with problems in Jakarta,” Anies said at the Ministry of Home Affairs Building, Central Jakarta, Monday. He also added that The President’s decision to choose Heru as DKI Acting Governor was the right decision.

The Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta will be working for a one-year term and can be extended for another year. During his term, the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta will be responsible for continuing on-going agenda that has been carried out by the previous governor.

Regardless of his new position, Heru will not leave his current duty as Head of the Presidential Secretariat. His position in Echelon I in fact, was what made him eligible to be an Acting Governor according to The Pilkada Regulation.
