August 12, 2022 – A foreigner from the Netherlands with the alias CGAB (75) is deported by the Denpasar Immigration Detention Centre, Bali. The foreign tourist was arrested by the Immigration Office Class I TPI Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) for overstaying in Indonesia for 470 days since March 12 2021.
Anggiat Napitupulu, the head of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights regional office in Bali, said that the officers detained the foreigner in Pringgarata, Central Lombok, NTB, a couple of days ago.
When he was getting checked, the foreigner admitted that he does not have any money to extend his Limited Stay Permit (ITAS) for Elderly Travellers. He reasoned that this is because the money was used for appendicitis and hernia surgery from January to September 2021.
Not only that, but he also confessed that approximately IDR 25,000,000 pension money has been used to hire a lawyer for his child who got caught in a drug case in his home country.
“He argues that the pension money he should have received 1,500 Euros could only be disbursed around 450 euros as he has to pay debts for attorney fees for his child who was involved in a drug case in the Netherlands,” said Napitupulu in a written statement on Thursday (11/8).
Despite that, the foreigner has to be deported for violating the stay period as stipulated in Article 78 Paragraph 3 of Law Number 6 the Year 2011 concerning Immigration.
The Immigration Office Class I TPI Mataram, NTB handed over the foreigner to the Denpasar Rudenim to be detained while the deportation process is in progress.
Other than the foreigner from the Netherlands, Denpasar Rudenim is also processing the deportation of a foreigner from Germany with the initials SAP (55) who was caught in a similar case.
The man from Germany is arrested by the Kanim Class I TPI Mataram due to violating his Visa on Arrival (VoA) stay permit for 2 years and 2 months since 12 April 2020.
The man didn’t know that during the Covid-19 pandemic, VoA holders has to do onshore extensions in Immigration Office to receive permit stay extensions.
According to Napitupulu, the two foreigners have been deported to their respective countries on Tuesday (9/8) around 9:30 WITA.
