Is there a membership fee to join Social Expat Community?

There is no membership fee to join Social Expat and you may join as many or as little events we host and benefit from all our exclusive features. However, we still charge admittance fees to our events with early bird and special complementary deals, so stay tuned!

Which countries or cities is Social Expat active?

As of June 2026 we have communities in Indonesia and the Philippines combining approximately 10-15 events every month across Jakarta, Bali and Manila. Stay tuned for new communities coming soon!

Can Non-Expatriates/Immigrants attend Social Expat Events?

We welcome everyone and proud to promote a fully inclusive community. Our name represents our goal to help people to travel the world and comfortably make new friends and partnerships globally. We hope that locals of each country can someday join our communities overseas.

Social and Business Networking events: What is the difference?

The Business Networking Events are focused on enhancing professional networking. We have speakers and sponsors at the event, as well as networking activities that promote professional interactions. Our Social Events tend to be more relaxed and have more fun interactive activities.

What makes Social Expat different to other expatriate platforms?

Many things distinguish Social Expat from other platforms, but apart from providing the most comprehensive platform with information and guides, the main difference is our events. We have dedicated teams on in each location that ensures our events are run smoothly and professionally.

Where did Social Expat start and why was it created?

Social Expat started in Jakarta by British entrepreneur Gary Joy who wanted to create a better platform for expatriates. We have successfully expanded to Bali and to Philippines in 2026. We aim to be the most comprehensive and inclusive networking platform in the world.

Can I attend Social Expat events alone without feeling awkward?

Of course! We encourage inclusion and diversity for people who don’t know anyone and the point of coming is to spread your network and meet as many new people as possible. We try to ensure there are games and activities at our events to encourage people to talk and interact.

I am an introvert and scared to join Social Expat, what should I do?

Like anything in life, you get back what you put in. If you come to and interact to people or take part in activities, then you won’t meet new people. We cannot force you to interact with others, but we will encourage to meet other people and make the most of your time with Social Expat!

How many people regulartly attend Social Expat events?

Guest numbers at Social Expat can vary based on the event style, the venue, the location, the promotions, the weather and the day. Business Networking events generally have approximately 35 – 60 guests, whereas Social Events tend to have between 30 – 120 guests.

How many nationalities are currently joining Social Expat Community?

Nationalities at Social Expat events vary in every event as we welcome all nationalities to join our ever-expanding community. Typically, some locations tend to have a higher general population of expatriates than others, which may affect the numbers in that area.

What events and gatherings does Social Expat organize?

We are renowned for our immersive and interactive event types that cover a plethora of styles to suits everyone’s needs. From business to social, to dancing to singles, to sports clubs to hobbies, whatever tribe you are looking to meet, we will provide gatherings to make it happen!
